Confirm water content at the truck
Water/cement ratio on fresh concrete, at the plant or on site. Result before the truck has finished unloading.

The last chance to catch it
Verification is quality control on finished concrete — by the producer, by a testing laboratory, or by the customer receiving the load.
It answers a question none of the upstream stages can: what is actually in this truck. Everything before this point measures an input or a process. This measures the product, at the moment ownership changes hands.
The value is in the timing. A result available before the truck mixer has fully unloaded is a result you can act on. A laboratory result on the same load, days later, is a record of what happened.
Water content without a laboratory
SONO WZ measures water content and electrical conductivity in ready-mix concrete with a portable probe and a handheld display. No sample prep, no drying, no laboratory equipment — a measurement in the shortest possible time, taken from a bucket at the truck or from the pour itself.
Conductivity alongside water content is more useful than it first appears. It responds to the ionic content of the mix, so a conductivity value that has moved when it should not have is a signal that something in the recipe changed even when the water figure looks acceptable.
Where readings need to be recorded rather than just read, SONO WZ CONNECT adds integrated Bluetooth and pairs directly with a phone running the SONO CONNECT app — the phone becomes the readout, and readings can be recorded and transmitted from wherever the pour is happening.
- Water content and electrical conductivity in ready-mix concrete
- Simple measurement in the shortest possible time, without laboratory equipment
- Measured value available before the truck mixer has fully unloaded
- Reliable results across all standard concretes
- Stainless steel probe head with rectangular special ceramic window
- Optional wireless interfaces simplify use and transmission of measurement data
Where verification happens
At the plant, before dispatch
Check the load before it leaves. A reading here is cheaper than a rejected pour and far cheaper than a load that is accepted and later fails.
At the job site, on arrival
The customer's side of the same measurement. Water content on arrival is the figure that matters to whoever is placing the concrete, and it is measurable in the time it takes to fill a bucket.
In the testing laboratory
Independent verification on submitted samples, using the same technology as the plant so results are directly comparable rather than method-dependent.
Wirelessly, into a record
SONO WZ CONNECT with the SONO CONNECT app turns a phone into the display and lets readings be recorded and analysed rather than written on a clipboard.
Verification instruments

SONO WZ
Portable probe for water content and conductivity in ready-mix concrete. Result before the truck finishes unloading.

SONO WZ CONNECT
SONO WZ with integrated Bluetooth. Pairs to a phone running the SONO CONNECT — no separate display unit.

SONO DIS
Weatherproof display unit for SONO WZ and the SONO M1/M2 portable probes.
Verification is not correction
By the time concrete is in a truck, the mix is made. A verification reading tells you whether to accept, adjust on site within specification, or reject — it cannot change what was batched. Plants that rely only on verification find problems reliably and late. The correction happens upstream, at delivery and dosing; verification confirms it worked and gives you a defensible record when someone asks.
Verification — frequently asked
What does SONO WZ measure?
Water content and electrical conductivity in fresh ready-mix concrete, using a portable probe with integrated TDR electronics and a stainless steel probe head with a rectangular special ceramic window.
How fast is the result?
Fast enough to matter — the measured value is available before the truck mixer has fully unloaded, which is what makes it a decision rather than a record.
Do I need a separate display unit?
SONO WZ pairs with the SONO DIS ruggedized mobile display, in a weatherproof aluminium housing rated IP67. SONO WZ CONNECT instead uses integrated Bluetooth with the SONO CONNECT app, so a phone becomes the readout and no separate display is carried.
Can the same display run other probes?
Yes. SONO DIS works with SONO WZ and with the SONO M1 and M2 portable moisture probes, so a plant running both delivery checks and concrete verification uses one display across both.
Does this replace cylinder testing?
No. Strength testing measures a different property on a different timescale and remains what it always was. Water content measurement tells you within minutes whether the load in front of you matches the mix design.
Moisture changes at every stage
Sand arrives wet and variable. It gets dosed, mixed, and delivered. A reading at one point does not describe the others.
Not sure this is the right stage to measure?
Most plants start at one stage and add a second once they see the numbers. Tell us the problem you are chasing and we will say where to put the probe.
