Overview

A reach problem, not a material problem

The M2 is not for different material. It reads the same sand, gravel and crushed stone as the M1. It exists because sometimes the material you need to measure is not within arm's reach of the surface.

A slimline body penetrates deeper into a pile with less resistance, and the telescopic extension takes that to two metres.

How it works

When depth is the whole question

Stockpiles stratify. Water drains down and collects toward the base, sun dries the crown, and the working face is different again. A reading taken at whatever depth is convenient describes whatever depth is convenient.

Where a plant is drawing from deep in a pile, or checking a bin from a walkway, or sampling material that is simply not accessible near the surface, reach stops being a convenience and becomes the difference between a representative number and a meaningless one.

The extension also has a safety dimension. Reaching two metres in from where you are standing is preferable to climbing a stockpile to get a reading.

The same measurement, further in

TDR electronics are integrated in the probe as with the rest of the range, and the M2 runs on the same HD2 display and the same SONO DIS as the other portable probes. The measurement behaves identically — layer-by-layer through the material volume, unaffected by abrasion, no recalibration on wear.

Common questions

SONO M2 — frequently asked

How far does the telescopic extension reach?

Up to two metres.

Does the M2 measure different materials than the M1?

No — sand, gravel and crushed stone, the same as the M1. The difference is the slimline body and the reach, not the material range.

Which display does it use?

The HD2 mobile display, or the SONO DIS ruggedized display which also works with the SONO WZ.
