Rod form, abrasive service
SONO SILO Xtrem is the abrasive-duty version of the rod probe — a replaceable hardened steel head with a rectangular special ceramic window, for sand, gravel, coarse gravel and crushed stone.
It answers the case where two constraints land together: the mounting point is a wall, and the material is aggressive. Neither the round Xtrem nor the Standard rod covers that combination.
Why the head material is the whole decision
Between Standard and Xtrem, the measurement principle, the outputs, the calibrations and the integration are identical. What changes is what the front of the probe is made of and how long it survives.
Choosing Standard for abrasive material does not give you a wrong reading — the TDR geometry holds regardless of wear. It gives you a shorter service interval and more head changes than you need. Choosing Xtrem for gentle material simply costs more than necessary.
Match the head to the material and the rest of the decision takes care of itself.

Integration is unchanged
Analog output at 0–20 mA, 4–20 mA or 0–10 V, digital over RS 485 or IMP bus, 15 pre-installed calibrations, and parameterization through SONO VIEW or wirelessly. Nothing about the abrasive-duty head changes how the probe talks to your plant.
How the SONO SILO Xtrem connects to your plant
SONO probes connect to the PLC through an analog interface at 0–20 mA, 4–20 mA or 0–10 V, as with any other moisture probe. Fifteen typical product calibrations — aggregates, sand, gravel, crushed stones — ship as standard.
For parameterization and initial commissioning, SONO VIEW gives you a wired display for up to 16 probes, or the probe can be configured wirelessly. Either route can select, change or create calibrations and display the probe's measurements directly. Over long cable runs the IMP bus is the robust option and requires a display unit; a serial connection over RS 485 is also feasible.

How is this different from SONO SILO Standard?
Head material. Xtrem carries a replaceable hardened steel head with a special ceramic window for coarse gravel and crushed stone; Standard uses a stainless head rated for sand and gravel up to 8 mm.
Does the abrasive head reduce accuracy?
No. Measuring accuracy is unchanged by wear on the probe surface, and wear does not require recalibration.
